Cruel Summer
The weather was rather cruel to us on Saturday, and the Swimming Gala we ran as part of the Fen Edge Family Festival Fotos was nowhere near as well attended as it would have been had it not been pouring with rain! Still three hardy swimmers rose to the challenge and raced their lengths with all the familiar strokes. Thanks to Gill T for lifting and separating the floats along the lane dividers and to Laura D and Geoff R for running the show. As well as the lifeguards in attendance and the smattering of spectators for turning up.
That said, a lot of new faces popped their head round the gate on their way to and from the Colourdome and took timetables and flyers, so hopefully we’ll see some new swimmers in the coming weeks.

Note from weekend lifeguard and association chairman:
Weather cruel or not, the pool’s getting warmer! 26 Celsius (nearly 79 Fahrenheit) on Sunday 1st July.
Whatever the weather, the weekend and ‘Early Bird’ sessions will continue - these sessions are largely covered by volunteer lifeguard time.
BUT - there are not enough people using the pool to make it financially possible to continue the full weekday timetable that we have at the moment.
If we get enough people using the pool then we can continue with weekday sessions as they are (plus swimming lessons and early-afternoon fun sessions) after 22nd July. Otherwise after 22nd July we will need to open only on three weekdays or two weekdays (e.g. only Mon, Wed, Fri, or only Tues & Thurs)…unless of course we get enough donations to cover all of the maintenance bill _and_ enough further donations or volunteer lifeguards to cover at least half the lifeguarding timetable!

Laura’s right, the only way the Cottenham Pool will survive is if we have swimmers, so please come along, get your Goggs on and take the plunge!
